Non ha l’ottimo artista alcun concetto
c’un marmo solo in sé non circonscriva
col suo superchio, e solo a quello arriva
la man che ubbidisce all’intelletto.
Il mal ch’io fuggo, e ’l ben ch’io mi prometto,
in te, donna leggiadra, altera e diva,
tal si nasconde; e perch’io più non viva,
contraria ho l’arte al disïato effetto.
Amor dunque non ha, né tua beltate
o durezza o fortuna o gran disdegno
del mio mal colpa, o mio destino o sorte;
se dentro del tuo cor morte e pietate

There is not in the excellent artist one concept
that marble already does not have in itself
with its excess, and not but only there arrives
the hand that obeys the mind.
The bad that I flee, and the good that I promise myself
in you, divine, majestic, and sightly woman,
are hidden, and for I live no longer
my art has the opposite effect.
Love has not, thus, neither your beauty
nor toughness nor fortune nor great disdain
for my ill blame, or for my destiny or fate;
if inside your heart death and piousness
are at the same time, my low intelligence
knows not, burning, to draw anything other than death.

No hay en el excelente artista algún concepto
que un mármol ya no contenga en sí mismo
en su intensidad, y solo a aquello arriba
la mano que obedece al intelecto.
El mal del que huyo, y el bien que me prometo,
en ti, mujer altiva, elegante y divina,
se esconden, y porque ya no vivo,
mi obra provoca el efecto contrario al deseado.
El amor no tiene, por tanto, ni tu belleza,
ni tu fortaleza o fortuna o gran desdén
de mi mal la culpa, o de mi destino o suerte;
si dentro de tu corazón muerte y piedad

Note also that altera is the antonym of basso. I am translating altera as majestic for lack of a better alternative; altera is a mixture of stubborness (in a negative way) and superior (in a good way). Majestic is closest I got in English that suggests both (but not quite, really). Put differently, basso just means low or inferior, whereas altera means high as in high-regarded; however I still think it has a shadow of cruelty to it that I am trying to convey.

"de mi mal la culpa" intenta enfatizar que ni el amor ni su belleza, etc, tienen la culpa de su mal; suena un poco forzado, sin embargo, y quizás sería mejor omitirlo (y que la frase sea de mi mal culpa).
